Dazzle in the Sky, Educate on the Ground!
The Fort St. John International Air Show Society was formed in 2009 with the goal of producing an engaging, effective, interactive and valuable Air Show. An Air Show is an event that is unique in Northern BC and has a large draw, which therefore presents an opportunity to showcase Fort St. John and the surrounding area.
Fort St. John as a city really got it’s start during World War II with the building of the Alaska Highway. The airport was constructed at that time, to facilitate the arrival of materials and manpower. The flight demonstrations for the 2022 Air Show involve WWII-era warbirds that tie to the history of the area, including the Harvard and the Yak. The long-time fan favorite Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds are also flying in the show.
A successful air show has several different elements to it, with the most notable being a great show in the sky. But it takes more than that to engage a crowd. Interaction with the planes, with the performers, and with educational displays will create a memorable experience for all. The static displays tell a story and engage the audience, young and old.
The theme for the 2022 show is local education, employment opportunities, and STEM, (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics). STEM has become the number one draw for youth at air shows across North America, and provides an opportunity to demonstrate the skills training and opportunities that aviation has for future careers.
The Fort St John International Air Show Society is committed to providing a quality, affordable, safe, family-friendly event that will benefit Fort St. John and the surrounding area.
